In 2004 the museum re-introduced the Tuna Tournament to the area with the help of the Yarmouth Shark Scramble. The tournament was held in Yarmouth for three years. However, in 2007, the fourth year, the Wedgeport Tuna Tournament was held in Wedgeport for the first time since 1976. Once again the spectators watched in wide-eyed excitement as nine large tuna were hoisted off the boats that participated in the tournament. The fundraising event was a huge success. The 5th annual event was held in late August, 2008. The tournament was brought back to the famous tuna wharf, which once was the tuna fishing capital of the world. The 6th annual tuna tournament was held once again at the Wedgeport Tuna Wharf on August 17th to the 22nd. Our Tuna Queen this year is JOLINE BOUDREAU from Wedgeport.

Our 7th Annual Tuna Tournament Festival Updates:
The 16th - The Wine & Cheese, with the presentation of our princesses for The Tuna Queen 2010.
The 17th - The Captain's Send off, where we say goodbye and goodluck to all the fishermen who will participate in the Tuna Fishing Tournament.
They sail off to their fishing grounds,on George's Banks, which is a 12 hour sail.
The 18th- Family night, full of entertainment for kids. Come enjoy some entertainment with your whole family!(more details to follow)
The 19th- Kids fishing Derby/Tuna Pageant, the derby will take place at the breakwater wharf(time pending). Registration forms can be obttained at the Wedgeport Museum.
The Tuna pageant will also take place in the BIG TENT on the same evening. At this time Joline Boudreau will crown our Next Tuna Queen.
The 20th- There will be lots of food and entertainment. More details to follow.
The 21st- Closing Ceremonies. This is the day you do not want to miss. Weighing in of the Tuna,(time pending) followed by the Tuna Auction & then the closing ceremonies. Food Venders will also be available on the premisses. Entertainment all day and all evening until approximately 1:00am! This is the night we celebrate victory!
